The drinking water supply in 7 villages of Tovuz region is being improved

In accordance with the state program on socio-economic development of regions approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the supply of drinking water to 7 villages located in the border region of Tovuz region is being improved. The project, implemented at the expense of state investment, covers the villages of Aghdam, Vahidli, Ashaghi Oysuzlu, Yukhari Oysuzlu, Alibeyli, Hajialli and Mulkulu.

Until now, residents of Aghdam and Vahidli villages have met their drinking water needs mainly by transporting it from long distances. Sub-artesian wells, Tovuzchay and underground sources were used for irrigation in other villages. In some villages covered by the project, water lines built individually by residents did not allow for normal water supply.

According to the approved project, drinking water will be supplied to the villages of Agdam and Vahidli from the existing drainage system and springs and to the villages of Alibeyli, Hajialli, Mulkulu, Yukhari Oysuzlu and Ashaghi Oysuzlu from 7 newly dug sub-artesian wells. The construction of a chlorinator unit, pumping stations and reservoirs for the treatment of well water is also planned. According to the project, springs will be installed for public use. Currently, the construction of inter-well, transmission main and network water lines, as well as reservoirs, is ongoing. So far, 13 kilometers of the 31 kilometers long transmission main have been built. At the same time, 111 kilometers of 150 kilometers of network water lines were built. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to install 690 springs for the population’s general use in 7 villages of Tovuz region.

Construction and installation work is expected to be completed in the summer of 2023. Implementation of the project will provide an opportunity to improve drinking water supply for up to 20,000 residents in 7 villages of Tovuz region. It should be noted that drinking water projects are being implemented in the villages and towns of Gazakh, Aghstafa and Neftchala districts in addition to Tovuz region.
