"Water Supply and Sewerage Project in Towns"


  A Loan Agreement on “Water Supply and Sewerage Project in Towns” was signed on May 29, 2009 between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Agreement came into force on June 30, 2009. The project is aimed at reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems in Gusar, Khachmaz, Khizi, Gobustan and Naftalan.

 

In the town of Gusar

The “Project on reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems in Gusar city" is estimated to improve 19600 residents’ drinking water and sewerage services of in Gusar considering perspective development by 2030.

Construction and installation work on the project was started in April 2012. In order to provide Gusar and surrounding villages with potable water, a drainage water intake facility with a capacity of 7300 cubic meters per day was constructed and a 17.4 km long transmission main was laid on the bed of Gusarchay River. At the same time, 3 water reservoirs with a total capacity of 3,000 cubic meters and a 2.8 km long inter-reservoir water line were built.

106 km of drinking water network, 105 km sewerage network were constructed in Gusar, meters were installed on each address. A new administrative building for the Gusar Sukanal Office was built within the project.

The opening ceremony of the drinking water and sanitation project in Gusar city was held on September 8, 2016, with the President Ilham Aliyev’s participation. At present all urban population is provided with continuous drinking water.

 

In the town of Khachmaz

The “Project on reconstruction of drinking water supply and sewerage system of Khachmaz city" is designed to improve 47000 residents’ drinking water and sanitation services  in Khachmaz, taking into account perspective development by 2030. 58,000 people will benefit from the project, including five villages of the region.

 Uchgun spring was chosen to provide Khachmaz town and surrounding villages with quality and durable water. Carrying out fundamental rebuilding the productivity of the source was reached 229 liters per second or 19800 cubic meters per day, with 2 water tanks with capacity of 3000 cubic meters each was constructed and 1,9 km- long transmission main for the transportation of water from the reservoir complex.

Within the project, 148 km of drinking water and 136 km sewerage network were built in Khachmaz, about 10 thousand subscribers were merged to the new networks and meters were installed. At the same time, a 1.2-kilometer main collector was built to pump waste water into a treatment plant. Wastewater generated in the town will be treated at the wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 20 thousand cubic meters/day and discharged.

A modern administrative building for the Regional Sukanal Office was built within the project.

On May 4, 2018 President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the ceremony of commissioning of the water supply and sewage systems in Khachmaz.

 

In the town of Khizi and Altiaghaj settlement

The Reconstruction of drinking water supply systems in Khizi town and Altiaghaj settlement and first project on sewerage networks is expected to improve 3300 people’s drinking water supply and sewerage services in Khizi and 1500 people’s in Altiaghac settlement considering perspective development until 2030. In total 6300 people will benefit from the project, including three villages in the district.

It was projected to provide water supply from various sources as there was no water source with high productivity in Khizi region. Water intake facilities with 864 cubic meters per day in Dahardibi that is considered the main source of the town Khizi and Altiaghaj settlement, 430 cubic meters in Gars, 240 cubic meters per day in Shafa and 40 cubic meters per day in Yeddibulag were constructed within the project. Four reservoirs with a total capacity of 1400 cubic meters were constructed and 18 km of main water line was laid for the transportation of water from the sources to the reservoir complex. Within the project, construction of 52.4 km of drinking water and 32.4 km of sewage networks and 1513 exploration wells in the Khizi and Altiaghaj settlements were completed, and connection of each house and facility was provided to the sewerage network.

A modern administrative building has been built for the Khizi Sukanal Office within the project.

On May 4, 2018, the opening ceremony of the project on reconstruction of drinking water supply systems and a sewerage network in Khizi and Altiaghaj settlement was held with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s participation.

As a continuation of the project waste water treatment plants are being constructed in Khizi (1500 cubic meters / day) and Altiaghaj settlement (350 cubic meters / day) to treat and discharge waste water generated.

 

In the town of Naftalan

The “Project on reconstruction of drinking water supply and sewerage systems of Naftalan city" is estimated to improve 9800 people’s drinking water supply and sanitation services in Naftalan by taking into account perspective development by 2030.

Implementation of the project on reconstruction of drinking water supply and sewerage system of Naftalan city started in early 2013. A total of 6.4 km of transmission main was constructed to Naftalan from the Balliqaya-Goranboy transmission main providing Goranboy's drinking water for the Naftalan city and its surrounding villages, two water tanks with a total capacity of 3,000 cubic meters were built.

Within the project, 36.8 km of drinking water network was established in Naftalan city, subscribers were provided with home appliances, meters were installed. At the same time, 37.7 km of sewage network and 1,8 km of sewage collector were constructed in the city. A new administrative building was built for the Naftalan Sukanal Office according to the project.

On September 10, 2013, with the President Ilham Aliyev’s participation, a drinking water supply ceremony was held in Naftalan. At present all the residents of the town are provided with continuous drinking water.

Construction of a waste water treatment plant with a capacity of 3,000 cubic meters per day is being continued in Naftalan to eliminate wastewater from the city.

Within the project, drinking water is provided to the villages of Gasimbayli and Gashalti Garagoyunlu, where 3200 people live.

 

In the town of Gobustan

The “Project on reconstruction of the drinking water supply and sewerage systems in Gobustan" is estimated to improve 11700 residents’ drinking water supply and sanitation services in Gobustan, taking into account perspective development until 2030.

Project implementation was launched in 2015. 6 sub-artesian wells were drilled near the village of Tesi to provide Gobustan and surrounding villages with sustainable drinking water. In order to improve the quality of water taken from the source, a reverse- osmosis-type drinking water treatment plant with a capacity of 3,800 cubic meters per day was built. A 14.4 km main water line was laid from the water source to the city and a pumping station was installed in Tasi and Badalli villages along the pipeline route, and two reservoirs with a total capacity of 2,000 cubic meters were built in Dasharasi and Narimankend villages.

A 68 km long drinking water network has been established in Gobustan and connections have been provided to 2,060 addresses. At present, the city population is provided with quality drinking water due to the newly created infrastructure.

For the first time, a sewerage infrastructure has been created in Gobustan within the project. 42 km of sewerage network and 7 km of sewerage collector have been built in the city. The construction of a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 2,500 cubic meters per day is underway to treat and neutralize wastewater. As part of the project, a modern office building was built and put into operation for the Gobustan Sukanal Area.

Due to the newly created infrastructure, drinking water was provided to the villages of Tasi, Badalli, Sadafli, Darakand, Jamjamli, Arabgadim and Goydara, where 7,000 people live.

On October 2, 2017, the opening ceremony was held with President Ilham Aliyev’s participation on the occasion of the commissioning of drinking water supply and sewerage networks in Gobustan.
