A video conference on "Global climate changes impact on water resources and water efficiency" held in connection with World Water Resources Day

March 22 - in connection with the World Water Resources Day, discussions on "Global climate changes impact on water resources and water efficiency" was organized by “Azersu” OJSC and the Public Council under “Azersu” OJSC. Opening the event, Rauf Zeyni, Chairman of the Public Council under “Azersu” OJSC, said that climate changes in recent years led to a decrease in freshwater resources. Comprehensive measures are being taken at the government level to reduce the impact of this trend, which is observed in many countries around the world, including Azerbaijan. In this situation, consumers should be encouraged to use water sparingly and civil society has a great responsibility to do so.

 

Speaking at the conference, Vice-Rector of BSU, Doctor in Geographical Sciences Farda Imanov, Head of Khazar University Center, Member of the Public Council under “Azersu” OJSC Rovshan Abbasov, Head of the Department at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Faig Mutallimov, Head of the Division at “Azersu” OJSC Elkin Rustamov, member of Milli Majlis Jeyhun Mammadov, Head of department at the State Agency for Water Resources of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Sevinj Guliyeva, member of the Free Consumers Union and Public Council under “Azersu OJSC Eyyub Huseynov, employee of the FAO Azerbaijan office Aynur Seyidyusif, deputy director of Sukanal ETLI Rashail Ismayilov and other participants delivered information about the dynamics and expectations of freshwater resources in Azerbaijan in detail, the issues of efficient use in industry and household and promotion of water resources in irrigation. It was noted that the integrated and efficient use of declining water resources will minimize the negative impact on nature and farms.

During the discussions, the importance of the work done to implement the work envisaged in the "Action Plan for 2020-2022 to ensure the efficient use of water resources" approved by President Ilham Aliyev was discussed. The importance of the special activity of the representatives of civil society institutions in the awareness-raising activities provided for in paragraph 7 of the Action Plan was emphasized and the need for non-government organizations to implement propaganda and advocacy projects in this direction was stressed.

It should be noted that according to the resolution of the UN General Assembly dated December 22, 1992, March 22 is being marked as World Water Day since 1993.
