Measures against the illegal use of potable water are in progress

In order to fulfill President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev’s instructions on the prevention of waste and water losses in the drinking water sector, "Azersu" OJSC continues control and inspection measures. Special teams set up to investigate cases of illegal water use are working in an intensified mode, conducting raids during the day and at night.

As a result of control measures carried out in the service areas of water supply departments of Absheron Peninsula, as well as in the regions, the facts of illegal interference by individuals and businesses in the transmission mains, distribution networks, fire hydrants were revealed. Over the past week, cases of unregistered use of water in greenhouses, a network of markets, housing cooperatives, poultry farms, beauty salons, butcheries and car washes and off-meter water lines have been identified.

During a night raid in Masazir settlement of Absheron region, it was revealed that an illegal line was laid from the water supply system to irrigate the greenery to car wash. In Hokmali settlement, water trucks were prevented from filling with water. A person selling water in Mardakan settlement of Khazar region was caught illegally filling water from a fire hydrant.

It was found out that the water taken illegally through the 110 mm diameter pipes in the part of the Jeyranbatan-Mashtagha high-pressure transmission main passing through Ramana settlement was used for irrigation in the greenhouse complex in the area. On part of the transmission main passing through Savalan residential area, a group of people interfered with the pipeline, created an artificial reservoir in the area and used it for animals.

In all cases, the illegal lines cut, taking into account the damage caused by illegal use. At the same time, citizens and entrepreneurs were informed in detail about the technical conditions for connection to drinking water networks and the rules of connection.

It should be noted unathorized connection to water supply systems without taking into account the technical possibilities, along with waste and losses, disrupts the stability of drinking water supply in settlements and worsens the water supply of some subscribers.

We once again call on citizens to refrain from such actions and state that measures will be taken to prevent such violations, the damage caused by illegal use of water will be calculated and law enforcement agencies will be contacted in each case.
