Drinking water supply systems in Sumgayit, the major industrial center of the republic, will be further improved. During the visit to Sumgait city on October 3 President Ilham Aliyev stated that complex infrastructure projects are carried out in Sumgait with the purpose of social-economic development of the city. The head of state noted that construction of Takhtakorpu water reservoir and Takhtakorpu-Jeyranbatan canal will improve water supply systems in Sumgait city: “Today 83% of city population is supplied with drinking water on “24 hours a day” basis. Some problems have been solved. But the population in the city will grow, new enterprises will be constructed. That’s why there will be greater demand for drinking and technical water.”

Note that large-scale works were carried out in Sumgayit between 2011 and 2013 by “Azersu” OJSC with the purpose of improvement of drinking water and sanitation systems. The existing water supply system of the city has been reconstructed. With this purpose water lines of 45,3km were laid and changed. Thus 287 multistorey buildings are supplied with drinking water on “24 hours a day” basis. Water supply of 95 thousand people has been substantially improved.
