Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has attended a ceremony to start water supply to the city of Shirvan from Shirvan-Mughan integrated water pipeline.

Head of State reviewed the stands reflecting technical parameters of Shirvan-Mughan integrated water pipeline and master plan of water supply system in Shirvan.

At the opening of the pipeline chairman of “Azersu” OJSC Gorkhmaz Huseynov informed the President that the water supply of the city of Shirvan is carried out at the expense of the line, built in 1952 and that the city’s population (79,000 people) is provided only by 50% with centralized water supply. Other residents extract water individually.

Construction of more than 2 km of transmission lines and 35 of the planned 60 km of the water network has been finished for a short term. As a result of the first phase, currently more than 15,000 residents of the city of Shirvan are provided with round the clock water supply, and after the completion of the internal network water supply will be improved for 35,000 people. Residents of so-called "New housing estate" will be installed smart-meters.

Work on the reconstruction of water and sewer system of the city of Shirvan is fulfilled within the framework of project "Water supply and sanitation in small towns" funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

After familiarizing and start-up of equipment to deliver water to the population of the city of Shirvan, the President met with the builders of the water pipeline and water network, gave instructions and recommendations.
