Water supply and sanitation systems in Shamakhi under reconstruction

    Following “National Water Supply and Sanitation Services Project I” funded by the Government of Azerbaijan and World Bank the second phase on reconstruction of water supply and sanitation systems in Shamakhi was commenced.

   Under the first phase of the project water intake facilities and water supply facilities were constructed. A horizontal drainage facility with perforated pipes installed in the bed of Pirsaatchay River with the purpose of supplying Shamakhi with drinking water. A transmission main of 1,4km was laid and 2Nos reservoirs with capacity of 500 m3 each and chlorination building were constructed. The first phase of the project was completed in 2011.

   The second phase of the project includes construction of water supply and sanitation in Shamakhi city. At this phase a transmission main of 9,3 km, and  water network of totally 132km and sewerage network of 129km will be constructed. Presently water line of 22km, and sewerage line of 29km were laid. 8 Nos reservoirs with total capacity of 7500m3 will be built in order to supply consumers with drinking water on “24 hours a day” basis in Shamakhi.

   At the last phase of the project a wastewater treatment plant with the capacity of 9000m3 will be constructed.

   Once the project is completed water supply and sanitation systems of more over 40 thousand people will be improved.

    Note that water supply and sanitation systems in Shamakhi, as well as in Gabala, Sabirabad and Saatli will be reconstructed in the frame of “National Water Supply and Sanitation Services Project I” funded by the Government of Azerbaijan and World Bank
