An international conference on "Promoting water partnership and action for sustainable water management"

On June 29, an international conference on "Promoting water partnership and action for sustainable water management" is organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in Agalı village of Zangilan region with support of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the Karabakh Revival Fund.  

Current directions such as mobilizing efforts to achieve the goals and objectives for sustainable development in the field of water resources, creating a dialogue at the international level for the purpose of global and regional solutions to this issue and establishing partnerships in a cross-border context were the subject of discussions in the event held in a hybrid format with the participation of representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan and influential international organizations, experts.

Speaking at the conference, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev informed the participants about the restoration of the ecosystem and infrastructure, hydro-meteorological observation systems in the liberated territories, evaluation of water sources and other measures for the efficient use of water resources.

     

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Chairman of "Azersu" OJSC Kocharli Hasanov reminded that the efficient use of water resources is one of the most pressing issues of the modern era and delivered information about the drinking water supply of territories liberated from occupation. It was noted that during the occupation, drinking water supply and sewage systems were destroyed in these areas, hydro technical facilities and distribution networks in working condition were rendered unusable. "After the liberation of our lands from the occupation, the destroyed parts of the water sources and transmission mains, which initially supplied water to residential areas, were restored by "Azersu" OJSC and residential areas were supplied with water. In order to improve the level of service in settlements liberated from occupation, non-stop service areas were organized in Shusha, Zangilan, Kalbajar cities and Hadrut settlement. "Smart water" projects will be implemented in cities and regional centers freed from occupation”.

At the end of the conference, an outcome document was adopted, which will be a contribution to the Water Convention event to be held in Estonia on June 30. Within the framework of the conference, the participants got acquainted with the infrastructure created in "Smart Village" and took part in the ceremony of releasing gold-spotted trout fish into the Hekeri River.
