Illegal cases of drinking water supply were revealed in Sumgayit

In accordance with the "Action Plan for 2020-2022 to ensure the efficient use of water resources" approved by President Ilham Aliyev, measures are being taken to prevent water losses and waste. Cases of unregistered and off-meter water supply were revealed in Sumgayit, as a result of the investigation of special groups established by “Azersu” OJSC to detect and eliminate cases of illegal use of drinking water.

Off-meter use of water was prevented in the farm and meat cutting workshop located in the 42nd block of Sumgayit. So, despite the fact that the facility has a contract and a water meter, the entrepreneur cut the line to the meter. Instead, he laid an illegal line with a rubber pipe and used the water outside the meter. A similar situation has occurred at the facility before. Therefore, although the damage was calculated by writing an act to the entrepreneur, the owner of the object repeated his previous action.

The poultry feed shop near Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev settlement does not have a contract or a meter at all. The owner of the facility illegally got connected to the collector of the 450 mm diameter main water pipeline supplying Sumgayit with drinking water and laid a water line about 1 km away. Water was also used illegally in the facility, which acts as a garage in the area.

Necessary measures have been taken on each revealed fact, unauthorized lines and connections have been eliminated and damage caused by illegal use was calculated in accordance with the requirements of the Rules of Water Use.

“Azersu” OJSC brings to citizens’ and subscribers’ attention that global climate change has led to a decrease in the country's freshwater resources and in such circumstances, wasteful use of water is unacceptable. Measures will be taken to prevent such violations, the lines laid arbitrarily will be abolished and law enforcement agencies will be contacted about the perpetrators of such violations.

It should be noted that, 2093 facts of illegal use of drinking water were revealed by “Azersu” OJSC and 117 facts in Sumgayit city in the first quarter of this year. In this regard, consumption was restored in the amount of 566,000 and 27 cubic meters, respectively. In January-March this year, about 60 facts of illegal water supply were submitted to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
