Necessary measures are being taken by “Azersu” OJSC to eliminate water shortages caused by global climate change and droughts observed in recent years. Urgent measures are being taken to solve the problem of drinking water supply to settlements suffering from shortage of drinking water, including settlements in Neftchala region, within the "Action Plan for 2020-2022" to ensure the efficient use of water resources, approved by a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev.

In accordance with the President’s instructions, the construction of a 40 km long transmission main from the Shirvan-Mugan group water pipeline to Neftchala and a reservoir with a capacity of 7,500 cubic meters near the city of Salyan began in June, 2020. The construction of the transmission main was completed in a short time and water to Neftchala had been supplied since November 2020.

The commissioning of the main line from the Shirvan-Mugan group water pipeline to Neftchala created opportunities for the supply of drinking water to the villages, as well as the district center. In the past, water was supplied to modular facilities in 11 villages along the route of the transmission main and near the city of Neftchala.

It should be noted the modular water treatment facilities were installed in 42 villages and settlements of Neftchala region to provide the population with drinking water. Due to the water problem in the Kura River and irrigation canals, there are interruptions in the operation of modular facilities and the population’s demand for drinking water is met by vehicles. At present, water is transported by water trucks to modular treatment plants in about 20 villages of the region. For this purpose, 8 water trucks provide regular transportation of water to modular facilities, mobile tanks are installed in villages and settlements. To meet the growing demand, additional vehicles are being attracted. In order to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of water supply by transportation, 3 water pylons were installed in the area as close as possible to these villages.

To provide other villages and settlements of Neftchala region with sustainable drinking water, the construction of the second transmission main from the Shirvan- Mughan group water pipeline to the region, as well as lines from the transmission main to the villages and settlements is designed.
