Occupation of protection zones of drinking and waste water lines is unacceptable and such cases create serious problems in the future operation of main pipelines. Construction of individual houses in the protection zone of the Jeyranbatan-Zira transmission main, which is important for drinking water supply in the eastern part of the Absheron Peninsula, passing through the Mahammadi settlement, was prevented.

While inspecting the protection zones of communication systems, two illegally built private houses were found on the Jeyranbatan-Zira main water pipeline. During the conversation with the owners, it became clear that these citizens received the land from the mediator and there is no document proving that the land belongs to them. Residents were informed that the 1,400 mm diameter transmission main passing through the area has high pressure and provides drinking water to settlements in the eastern part of the Absheron Peninsula. The presence of any individual structure in the protection zone of this pipeline will create difficulties in the free operation of equipment in the event of future accidents and in some cases it will even be necessary to demolish those structures. High pressure in the main pipeline can pose a serious threat to human life in the event of an accident. In this regard, any construction on the pipeline and in the protection zone is prohibited.

During the inspection, it was found that these illegal structures are located on the carrier collector of the pumping station built to regulate the water level in Lake Boyukshor. Homeowners were informed that the presence of individual houses on the high-pressure transmission main is dangerous and the protection zone must be emptied.

In the Absheron district, near the Baku-Shamakhi highway, a non-residential facility was found to be illegally connected to the wastewater line. The owner of the facility illegally connected to a nearby sewer inspection well by laying a 150-meter-long sewer line with 300 mm diameter pipes without obtaining technical specifications. A protocol was developed and the illegally laid sewer line was abolished.

“Azersu” OJSC urges citizens and entrepreneurs to refrain from such actions and states that the construction of individual houses and facilities in the protection zone of transmission mains, reservoirs and other hydraulic structures is prohibited. When purchasing land for individual housing and facilities, citizens and entrepreneurs should seek the opinion of the relevant authorities to determine whether there are communication systems in the area. At the same time, illegal connection to drinking water and sewerage networks is not allowed and technical conditions must be obtained to use the services.
