Within the framework of the state program on socio-economic development of the regions approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the implementation of the project of reconstruction of drinking and waste water infrastructures of Ganja city is being continued. Currently, construction of distribution networks and metering work is being carried out in the city.

In Ganja, the second largest city of our republic, which has an ancient history and great industrial potential, the creation of new water supply infrastructures has been started within the framework of a project financed jointly with the German Development Bank. It was decided to use the reserves of Goygol, Kyzylgaya and Shamkirchay reservoirs to provide Ganja city with sustainable and high-quality drinking water. In the past, a new drainage system with a capacity of 200 liters per second was created at the Goygol water source. A water reservoir with a volume of 4000 cubic meters was built in Ganja city and a 24.3 km long transmission main was built from the source to the reservoir. Restoration and reconstruction work was carried out at the Kyzylgaya water source, 3 water reservoirs with a total capacity of 12 thousand cubic meters, 11 km of main water lines were built. Most of Ganja's drinking water needs are supplied by the Shamkirchay reservoir. A water treatment plant with a capacity of 140,000 cubic meters per day was built near the reservoir and a 27.5 km Shamkirchay-Ganja transmission main was built from here to the city of Ganja.

According to the project, it is planned to create 855 km of drinking water and 813 km of waste water network in the city of Ganja. Taking into account the size of the city of Ganja, the reconstruction of drinking and waste water networks is being carried out in stages. According to the state program of 2022, the construction of 8.3 km of drinking water and 8.4 km of waste water lines with pipes of different diameters and the connection of more than 600 subscribers to the newly created networks are currently underway in the city of Ganja. The work on this stage is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The construction of the rest of the network will be carried out in the next stages of the project.

The waste water generated in Ganja city will be built in the territory of Samukh district in the future and will be cleaned and disposed of in a treatment plant with a capacity of 110,000 cubic meters per day. In general, 450,000 people will benefit from the project implemented in the city of Ganja, taking into account the prospective development until 2035.
