A meeting held to develop a new drinking water standard and rules

A meeting on “Drinking water. Hygienic requirements and quality control" to develop State Standards was held among the representatives of the WHO and National Working Group on May 25-26, 2022.

WHO representatives said that the purpose of the mission is to provide technical support for the development of new drinking water standards and regulations in Azerbaijan.

The draft water standard proposed by the “Azersu” OJSC, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the Azerbaijan Institute of Standardization, the Republican Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology was discussed, views on the study on drinking water safety plan, future goals, physicochemical and bacteriological parameters of the drinking water were exchanged. Relevant recommendations were given by WHO experts and opinions were exchanged on best practices in this area.

It should be noted that the quality of drinking water supplied to consumers in the Republic of Azerbaijan is determined in accordance with the Interstate Standard (DUST 2874-82) adopted jointly by the CIS countries. Organoleptic, physicochemical, microbiological, parasitological and radiological indicators of drinking water are studied in accordance with DUST standard No. 2874-82.
