The next meeting of the working group established to prepare project documents for the establishment of drinking water supply, waste and rainwater management systems in the liberated city of Agdam was held. The project of drinking and waste water, as well as rainwater systems was presented and detailed discussions were held during the meeting held in Aghdam.

Bahadir Kangarli, head of the Planning and Design Department of “Azersu” Open Joint-Stock Company, said that the population's demand for drinking water and the city's industrial and tourism opportunities were taken into account during the preparation of the project. To provide the city of Aghdam and 4 villages near the city with sustainable and quality drinking water, a comprehensive study had been conducted and the "Smart Water" project is being prepared.

According to the project, the city of Aghdam will be supplied with drinking water from an underground water source and for this purpose, 3 exploration wells were drilled at the initial stage. The productivity of the wells will meet the demand and the water quality will fully meet the standards. In general, to provide the city with sustainable drinking water, 24 wells are drilled and the well area is provided with main and alternative (generator) electricity. The water received from the sub-artesians will be collected in high-altitude reservoirs and transferred to the settlements in a self-flowing mode. The project includes the creation of a distribution water network in the city, the installation of fire hydrants and valves on the network, as well as the provision of each subscriber with an electronic meter that can be read remotely.

A project on wastewater and rainwater management in Aghdam was also presented at the meeting. It was noted that modern technologies will be used in the construction of sewerage and rain infrastructure. According to the project, the wastewater generated in the city of Aghdam will be reused for technical and irrigation purposes after treatment in a biological facility designed for 30,000 cubic meters per day.

The project envisages the management of the city's rainwater by dividing it into two basins. Rainwater is also planned to be collected and reused in a reservoir to be built in each basin.

Aghdam city’s drinking water supply, waste and rainwater systems are designed to be managed from a single center. The productivity of sub-artesians, the level of reservoirs, water quality indicators will be monitored by the SCADA system, hydraulic regulation of the network will be carried out online.

Extensive discussions on the project were held at the meeting and it was recommended that the proposals be taken into account in the project.

It should be noted that, after the liberation of Aghdam region from occupation, “Azersu” OJSC carried out urgent work in order to provide the settlements with drinking water. Drinking and waste water lines, a reservoir, a pumping station and a septic tank had been built in the Aghdam region as part of a joint Turkish-Russian monitoring project. A new sub-artesian well was drilled and water lines were built in Khidirli village of Aghdam region.
