The implementation of drinking water and wastewater projects in Sheki continues within the State Program on Socio-Economic Development of the Regions approved by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Reconstruction of networks in the city, as well as construction of a wastewater treatment plant is underway at the expense of the state budget.

Centralized water supply systems in Sheki, which has an ancient history and great tourism potential, were established in the middle of the last century and have been in disrepair for many years. In addition, frequent floods and network failures caused problems for the population's drinking water supply.

To reconstruct the drinking water supply in Sheki, a water pumping station, main pipelines and reservoirs were built at the Kish source within a joint project of the Government of Azerbaijan and the German Development Bank.

At the same time, in order to fully meet the demand for drinking water, 15 new sub-artesian wells were drilled in the Kish River at the expense of the state budget, and a main water line was laid from the wells to Sheki. In the past period, the construction of drinking water and sewerage networks in Sheki has been continued in stages. According to the Action Plan for 2021, 9 km of drinking water and 8.5 km of sewerage networks will be reconstructed and 600 addresses will be connected to the new networks. Currently, work is being carried out by 9 construction crews and 45 percent of the project has been completed so far.

In general, 230 km of 314 km of water lines, 168 of 294 km sewerage collectors and lines have been built in Sheki. From the newly built network, subscribers were provided with home connections and meters were installed.

In order to treat and dispose of wastewater generated in the city of Sheki, the construction of a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 8,000 cubic meters per day is underway. About 80,000 residents will benefit from the project implemented in Sheki by 2035, taking into account the perspective development.
