Measures to prevent water losses and waste are being taken in accordance with the "Action Plan for 2020-2022 to ensure the efficient use of water resources" approved by President Ilham Aliyev. To detect and eliminate cases of illegal use of drinking water, cases of unregistered and off-meter water use in Absheron district were revealed as a result of the investigation of special groups established by “Azersu” OJSC.

It was found out that drinking water was used illegally in an apartment house on Hasanaga Turabov Street in Khirdalan. At first glance, it is clear that the building's internal and external water supply systems have been installed and all apartments in the building have been provided with meters by the owner. However, neither the meters nor the users were registered in the subscriber base of “Azersu” OJSC and the building was illegally connected to the water distribution network. In turn, residents say that they pay for the water they use to the people who run the building. Although the Zeytun market on the first floor of the building has a legal meter, not a single cubic meter of water has passed through the meter so far and the owner of the facility has illegally taken water from the line to the apartments.

Necessary measures have been taken on each revealed fact, unauthorized lines and connections have been eliminated and damage caused by illegal use has been calculated in accordance with the requirements of the Rules of Water Use. We once again urge citizens and entrepreneurs to refrain from such actions and state that measures will be taken to prevent such violations, the lines drawn arbitrarily will be abolished, and law enforcement agencies will be contacted about the perpetrators of such violations.

It should be noted that, 13993 facts of illegal use of drinking water were revealed by “Azersu” OJSC and 1492 facts in Absheron district6 within January-November 2021. According to these cases, consumption was restored in the amount of 4 million 64 thousand and 440 thousand cubic meters, respectively. During the first 11 months of this year, about 200 facts of illegal use of water were submitted to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
